Can I put a 6 1/2 inch subwoofer where my normal 6 3/4 stock speaker is? I am looking for speakers for my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I see that 6 1/2 inch subwoofers are avalible, and assume they can fit in my stock 6 3/4 inch speaker hole. I don't want a box in the back of my Jeep. I want the bass but need the space if that makes sense. Thanks for your response!

Dan H replied: "They may offer an adapter plate for your vehicle. It allows smaller and/or bigger speakers in the stock locations. Try Crutchfield, good source for these parts."

sparky3489 replied: "First off a speaker that size is still a speaker, not a subwoofer. Technically a woofer starts at 8" and a subwoofer starts at 10". With that you won't get much more bass than what you have."

beeboymichael replied: "yes u should be able to put them in the hole... but they really wouldn't sound there best their.. if u want them to really sound good put them in a box... u can make Ur box in a shape that won't take up much space..."

masterinstall3 replied: "without some type of enclosure it won't matter what title they put on it,(woofer, subwoofer, midwoofer) try some good coaxils like MB quart or polk audio 2 ways or a good componet set,and add a subwoofer in the rear for the low freq."

best 6 1/2" speaker? what are the best 6 1/2" speakers im going to need 2 both 6 1/2" for a 2008 subaru legacy 2.5i limited also do i need an amp for it? what kind? i need 1 thats really cheap also its going to have the factory subwoofer + 2 (dont try to talk me out of it) 8" bazooka noz tube subs

YOUR A TOWEL replied: "Polk Audio."

xItaLiaPuNk replied: "Are you looking at keeping the stock radio and adding on 2 amplifiers if you are probably wouldnt recommend it, you will need a pack adapter and most of the time by adding a 4 channel pack adapter can cause engine noise. Speakers whatever you like. From what I work with I like Polk and Eclipse, but if you want all around sound Id say Polk, but Im sure there are other brands out there."

HF replied: "MB QUART HIFONICS amp"

How would you go about hooking up an amp to 6x9's and 6 1/2's? would i run 2 sets of wires like with a subwoofer amp or swap out the factory amp? could you walk me through the process if possible?

myself replied: "You'll need to run your RCA cables (2 sets) to the new amp, and then your power wire from the battery, ground it, then you'll need to run your speaker wire from the amp to your speakers.....As for the factory amp, i don't understand your question....."

How big of an amp will i need if i am getting a 6 1/2' bazooka tube? heres the subwoofer any amps you recommend

odinsragess replied: "Kicker zx300.1 hands down.... 300 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, which should fit well with your dual 4 ohm bazooka. Or any quality 300 watt RMS amp."

are the pyle 6.5 comp subs any good? I'm putting some component subs in my firebird and I was wondering if these subs are a literal pyle. here they are:>
mchr1767 replied: "PYLE is a mediocre brand they are okay but just remember you get what you pay for but they should okay for a while."

odinsragess replied: "mediocre dude? They are bottom of the barrel in my book, pure flea market junk. Unreliable brand. Look elsewhere, I think kicker makes subs in that size. They might work decent for a low power setup, but they dont take abuse well IMO. There may have been a time in the 80s when pyle was a halfway decent company (just like MANY car audio companies before they sold out). But now, pure crap!"

how would i go about installing 6 speakers and 1 subwoofer in my car? At the moment i have 2 speakers in the front one in each door, 2 speakers in the back again 1 in each door and recently i have bought a 12 inch subwoofer. Soon i am going to buy two 6x9 to place in the boot. (I have a station wagon so there is a lot of room) What i am wondering is how will i connect these 6 speakers and 1 woofer up my head deck only has enough connections for 5 speakers. I know i'll need to buy an amplifier so any recomendations for 1 suitable with ports and power? and will i need to get a different head deck? I'm new at car audio so please help me out. cheers jacob.

chris2low replied: "sub and one tweeter in middle with other tweeters surroundig then all in fiberglass box"

Raleigh M replied: "I would just upgrade the four speakers you have to component speakers and get one sub to even it out. Component speakers come with a woofer and a tweeter."

Julie P replied: "Be sure to check the amount the factory speakers can handle before hooking them to your amp. You can port the two 6x9's and your sub. How many amps will your sub push? I didn't bother with pushing my factory speakers with my amp. I saved the power for the subs. I purchased two 6" subs for the doors then later bought a smaller amp to push them. They didn't sound distorted, in fact they sounded pretty good. Had to fasten down any loose screws or it came off. IF you find your license plates rattle, place the blue cleaning towells under them then tighten the screws down. It took 6 for mine."

J replied: "craigslist.org"

UNknownGvirgo25 replied: "i have a 820 watt 2ch. amp for sale is a power acoustik amp with built in led, only 80 bucks, ill install for ten bucks, im in covina area...in cali replace all 6 stock speakers and listen to how it sounds first w/o amp and sub/ if you buy a good/decent head unit sound will be ok-But not BBBumppppinnnn- you have to split speaker feeds."

Which Subwoofer do u pick?? how would you'll arrange the list's (you can even add a brand/model if i didnt put it) talking about 12" subs.believe me, this is going to help alot of people who ask question's like this *price isnt a factor because you get what you pay for *Daily Driver (be thumping it every day) *Beat Down the block *Be heard before your seen (King Kong in the trunk) Basically want the best because who doesnt... ok there is Three category's...Sound Quality(SQ)...Sound Pressure Level (SPL)...Overall Best Subwoofer.. RF_lover replied: "First off, i dont think P2's should really be even on the same page as these subs. I do admire the credit given to RF tho. I must say that the RF T2's beat all the subs on that list, at least in overall best sub. solo x is inaccurate jl costs $3 million per sub XXX is just dirty DD has no class orion is a constellation Mtx should just make more 22" jackhammers and forget 12"s ......seeing as how all these accusations are completely stupid, dont take any of them seriously, just realize that if you do have the money to buy one or more of these, ur gonna be bumpin shiit regardless of which one you buy. T2's are the best tho. O yea, P3's own type R's, just to let everybody know."

Joshua Y replied: "P3s? own type Rs? i hope you are talking about playstations threes or something other than Rockford Fosgates....Alpine is better than almost all of those brands in almost every aspect with a few exceptions from JL audio...pioneer premier is simply junk...kicker kicks but the sound quality is trash.....MTX 9500 is all about bass but they forgot about the part where its supposed to sound good too......i cant say anything about orion except that they have some really expensive stuff and ive never heard anything that good about them....and digital designs make subs that can compare to alpine type rs and blow rockford p3s out of the water and are cheaper too...... Best Overall 1.Alpine Type R and Type X 2.JL Audio W6 and W7 3.Digital Designs 9912"

Joe replied: "SQ: 1. W7 2. RE XXX 3. DD Other than that I haven't heard the rest and i guarantee the rest of these guys haven't. They are just simply going by what they think they like better. SPL: 1. RE XXX 2. SOLO X KICKER The XXX will roast a W7 and a SOLO X anyday the next closest sub id say would be an Fi BTL other than that the XXX slays. Best overall out of these.. Easily the RE audio XXX. Resonant engineering is not very common but a premier brand and there subs are insane. I heard a single 12" RE MX and it kicked the crap out of a 12" W7 no word of a lie. The JL W7 is just what everyone thinks is the best. JL is overpriced but they make a damn good woofer. RE is expensive but trust me, it will cook any of those subs with ease. If you don't want to spend the money, go with a BTL they are cheaper. If your getting an 18 BTL, well you won't hear them highs but the lows will be felt immensly. The XXX will be better overall but with a cost of more money. Good luck."

Matt A replied: "now from looking at ur list im kinda were ur at and im planning on upgrading to one of these sooo..... sq 1 w7 2 xxx 3 btl 4 premier 5 dd 95 or 99 6 mtx 9500 7 hcca 8 solox spl 1 solox 2 dd 95 or 99 3 btl 4 premier 5 xxx 6 hcca 7 mtx 9500 8 w7 best overall 1 xxx 2 w7 3 dd 95 or 99 4 btl 5 premier 6 mtx 9500 7 hcca 8 solox these woofers all have there strong points but the really stand out woofers r the xxx, dd, btl, and w7 in my opinion ....the w7 however is overpriced like no other...the xxx is very expensive but does deliver ...the dds have some of the best costomer service of any brand ...they will customize the woofer to ur exact description and the will change the size of the woofer whenever u want it...for example if have a suv and have a dd 9515 in it and u later buy a coupe they will change the cone and basket of ur woofer and send u back a 10 or a 12...they btls r very cheap for the way they perform... they can take up to 4000watts daily and win the competition everytime...fi customizes ur woofer the way u want it but i have never been able to actually talk to a person from the company ...dd on the other have takes calls all the time and u can talk to the experts about the direction u should go in when deciding how to build ur system...dd is like a fraternity bec u will have lfetime connections whenit comes to there products and since they r a smaller company they care if one person need help...u probably already know the orions and soloxs r only good for pure spl...the 9500s not bad but they r nothing compared to the rest of this group ..and the premier is a record holder but i dont care for them for some reason ...to add to the list of woofers to check out i hve been looking at mmats stuff...their amps handle business like world champions and there woofers r state of the art...the subs i was focusing on were the juggernaut series bec dd used to be affiliated with them and i have never heard a bad thing about mmats .......i recently went to a competition(a small local competition but a competition non the less) and i placed 4th in my category ....2 of the 3 people who beat me were using mmats and loved them to death(this is another reason i looked into them)...so if ur lookin to compete almost any othe the monsters on the list will get u somewhere good.....i know this might be the longest answer ever but enjoy"

countrylad replied: "Not sure i can help but here goes. There should be red/white socket at rear of tv[ audio] + same on home theater equip'.+ some systems connect via scart lead for sound and picture,so you have less leads, all differ but try the scart option first, as this is the easiest method."

Vincent V replied: "use the monitor out connection on your tv... the yellow one is video and the red and white are for audio/sound... red is right channel, white is left channel... just connect that to one of the Aux connections on your home theater set and leave the video (yellow) one open (don't connect it to anything)"

Jmann replied: "If you r planning on running them at a 4 ohm final load, you'll be fine. Just wire the coils in series and the subs in parallel. No worries from there."

georgewillings replied: "You can wire them down to 2 OHM load and still be good seeing how that amp is 2 OHm stable. Also leave the bass boost off as it will kill your subs."
